This series is dedicated to my dad, who passed away suddenly when I was 15 years old. I was inspired by photos I’ve found in family albums and social media accounts. In using a style that combines lifelike portraiture with abstract and expressive elements, I am describing the nature of my memories—with some parts still vivid, and other details lost to the passage of time. Sentimental details get the most care--done in oil paint, and are solid and discernable. Only the impressions of unimportant details remain, appearing to fade away into the background. This series was a method of processing my emotions while keeping my dad’s memory alive.
